Not all dermal fillers are created equal! Dermal fillers come in a variety of textures and densities. No two brands of fillers are the same and within each brand, there are a variety of densities in terms of how thick the fillers are and how easily they spread under the skin.
It is important that your doctor chooses the right filler based on the treatment area, anatomy, depth, technique, and desired result. A competent aesthetic doctor will first assess a patient and take all of the above into consideration. Experienced doctors never use a one-size-fits-all filler. They usually have a variety of brands and types of dermal filler to choose from. Nor will they apply a one-size-fits-all treatment template on you as every patient is unique.
If a patient has fine surface wrinkles that need to be softened, a thin and super-soft filler is used. If the lines are above the top lip, doctors will use a type of filler which doesn’t add any volume to avoid causing any puffiness in this area. For the cheeks a firmer, thicker, volumizing filler will be more appropriate. Some fillers are good for injecting into the deep fat pads whereas other fillers will be used in the superficial fat pads.
Fillers that have stretch and elastic qualities are ideal for mobile areas such as the marionette lines near the mouth or nasolabial fold. There are dermal fillers made specifically for the delicate under eye area.
If a doctor is sharpening up the lip border and only creating mild volume enhancement of the lips, a soft filler is used with a small degree of stiffness
