🩺 There are two parts to a low-risk injectable aesthetic treatment.

  1.    The aesthetic consultation
  2.    The medical consultation

🩺The medical consultation excludes conditions that may increase the risks of aesthetic procedures.

🩺Autoimmune conditions are a relative contraindication especially when having dermal fillers and threads. Even if well controlled the aesthetic doctor should still first consult with the physician or rheumatologist taking care of the patient.

🩺Any source of infection needs to be excluded such as a dental infection, sinusitis, infected skin lesions, acne and even a urinary tract infection (UTI). Bacteria in the system can contaminate the aesthetic treatments causing long term complications.

🩺The aesthetic doctor needs to know if a patient is immunosuppressed or has any chronic illnesses like diabetes, as these can affect healing. They need to enquire about previous surgery and anybody or facial implants.

🩺Other than a thorough medical history, it is absolutely essential that all makeup is removed, and skin is prepped and disinfected prior to treatments.

🩺Training to be an aesthetic practitioner goes way beyond the process of injecting and the aesthetic consultation. The medical consultation is vital to establish and mitigate risks.
