๐Ÿ“ŒDr. Kami Parsa, an oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon, and international board member of CMAC, has revealed what dermal fillers look like underneath the skin, using a MRI scanner.

๐Ÿ“ŒDr. Parsa shared an image of a patient who had over 12 syringes of hyaluronic acid filler injected to her face over the past six years.

๐Ÿ“ŒHe points out the green areas on the image, which indicate the filler. He says that when he measured the amount of filler, it ended up being close to 28 cubic centimetres, which is more than twice the amount that was injected. He attributes that to the fact that hyaluronic acid fillers are hydrophilic, meaning they love water, and they also cause tissue expansion.

๐Ÿ“Œโ€ We feel that, sometimes, hyaluronic acid fillers have been overused for many years. We felt it’s important to share our findings,” Dr. Parsa told Newsweek.

๐Ÿ“ŒHe explained that the video reveals that HA fillers can last much longer than filler companies often suggest. “We hope that people will learn that less is more when it comes to the HA filler.”

๐Ÿ“ŒThe expansion to nearly 28 cubic centimetres from 12 can lead to altered facial contours and unexpected results. These include so called “overfilled syndrome” or “pillow face,” while the goal of cosmetic procedures is generally to enhance natural features subtly.

๐Ÿ“ŒWhile dermal fillers remain one of the most effective aesthetic procedures, doctors need to be properly educated on technique and product usage, as well as anatomy. We are learning that fillers last a lot longer than originally believed. โ€œLess is moreโ€ is the best approach to the use of dermal fillers.
