If you want the best from your aesthetic treatment, here are five things to avoid before stepping into your practitioner’s room:
🚩Arriving with a full face of makeup.
Remember, this is a medical treatment, not an episode of Makeup Removal Wars. Makeup can increase your risk of infection and complications …and it takes up precious time. Doctors learn many skills at Med School, but makeup removal was not one of them!
🚩Wearing too much jewellery.
Necklaces, earrings, and nose rings can be both obstacles and germ magnets. They make it harder for your practitioner to access treatment areas — and can lead to post-treatment “lost and found” scavenger hunts.
🚩Treating your appointment like a board meeting.
Phones and smartwatches are distraction devices and bacterial playgrounds. Please silence or stow them during your treatment. Your doctor needs to focus, not dodge a buzzing wrist every five seconds.
🚩Drinking alcohol before your procedure.
Alcohol can thin the blood, increasing the risk of bruising and bleeding. For best results (and fewer rainbow bruises), skip the cocktails the night before your appointment.
🚩Coming in while sick.
Colds, sinus infections, UTIs, and recent dental work are all red flags. An underlying infection can increase the risk of complications, including the development of biofilms; hard-to-treat bacterial colonies that don’t belong anywhere near aesthetic treatments.
Your aesthetic doctor wants you to look and feel your best and that starts with safety. Help us keep your treatment effective, smooth, and complication-free!
