💉 A question that comes up a lot lately is if there is such a thing as Botulinum Toxin resistance.

💉Well, the fact is that some people are truly 100% resistant. This is a very small subset of the population who have either had the disease Botulism or have had vaccinations to prevent Botulism. These are usually people who have served in some sort of special armed forces where they needed very specific vaccinations. They have neutralizing antibodies to the toxin.

💉For the rest of us mere mortals, there’s a very tiny risk of developing neutralizing antibodies. A study done on 30,000 patients showed that the incidence of resistance is just 0.3%, no matter what brand of botulinum toxin was used.

💉The study highlighted the commonest reasons for developing resistance:

âž¡ Too often: Those who aren’t waiting the full 3-4 months between treatments and ask for regular “touch ups.”

➡ Too little: Patients that want low doses. Because they are under-dosed, the duration of effect is shorter, so they get their next injections sooner. Less isn’t always more here.

âž¡ Disarticulated treatments: Patients that get each facial area treated separately, instead of getting a full-face treatment. For instance, those who have their crow’s feet injected this month, their forehead the following month, and their platysmal bands next. It’s like playing a game of whack-a-mole with wrinkles – not very effective.

💉Each time these patients have a treatment, they are stimulating their immune system just that little bit, each time potentially creating antibodies.

💉You can reduce your tiny 0.3% risk of developing neutralizing antibodies by following a very simple rule:

➡  WAIT THE FULL 90-120 DAYS BETWEEN ALL TOXIN TREATMENTS!

💉Studies have shown that the development of antibodies is not dose-dependent but frequency-dependent.

💉Patience is a virtue, and in this case, it’s a beauty secret too.
